Logistics Land Use Strategy
As part of Caledon’s ongoing Official Plan review, we are developing a Logistics Land Use Strategy that will look at existing trucking and logistics policies and best practices to recommend potential solutions.
Study Goals
- Identify the most appropriate places for warehouses and delivery centres
- Reduce problems like unsafe truck parking and traffic impacts
- Identify truck routes to move goods better while cutting down noise and pollution
- Update current land use plans and zoning regulations as needed
What is Trucking & Logistics?
Trucking and logistics refer to the systems and services that involve moving goods in or through a community.
- Trucking involves the transportation of goods by freight or transport trucks.
- Logistics is the planning behind how goods are stored and delivered, like using warehouses and delivery systems.
Why is Caledon an important gateway?
Caledon’s location near Toronto Pearson International Airport and major highways positions it as a vital hub for logistics and goods movement. This advantage has helped our economy, attracted investment and created jobs. As the sector continues to expand, it is important to plan proactively and address key community priorities such as:
-
Trucks parking illegally, especially in rural and farming areas
-
Safety issues on roads, like speeding, traffic and crashes
-
Roads wearing out faster from heavy trucks
-
Noise, pollution and health concerns for people living nearby
This study will help manage growth, improve safety, reduce pollution and protect roads, to ensure Caledon grows in a way that is sustainable and benefits everyone.
