Adult 55 Strategic Plan

The Town of Caledon Adult 55+ Strategic Plan is a long-term, community-driven plan to address the issues that residents over the age of 55 often face. The Strategic Plan is developed in partnership by staff and the Seniors Task Force. Contact us to request this document.

Supporting the Strategy

In order for our Adult 55+ Strategic Plan to be successful, we need to ensure that we have resources available to implement and support the plan.

If you are a community stakeholder, business and/or provide a service to the Adult55+ population in Caledon, you can support the Adult 55+ Strategic Plan deliverables. To do so, we have developed an Adult 55+ Community Networking Group to build on the collaboration and connectedness of the community. Contact us for more information.

There are six goals that the Strategic Plan will accomplish.

Goal 1 - To ensure that human and financial resources are available to support the strategy

This goal will be achieved through the following:

  • We will conduct an organizational review by department, to outline how the Strategy will impact resources needed for implementation.
Goal 2 - To ensure Caledon residents can age-in-place

This goal will be achieved through the following:

  • We will advocate for and initiate housing options that support all needs, including but not limited to finaincial, social and physical abilities.
  • Region of Peel and other applicable community agencies will be asked to provide a comprehensive assessment of human services not readily available in Caledon but in demand.
  • Town-owned facilities and sites will be identified where a potential Older Adult Housing First Policy can be promoted and implemented.
  • The application process to facilitate the development of adult lifestyle and retirement projects in Caledon will be streamlined.
  • Establishing a Property Tax Deferral Program will be investigated.
Goal 3 - To ensure adults aged 55+ are socially integrated in the community

This goal will be achieved through the following:

  • By looking at ways to provide current programs in each village and potentially within established older adult housing complexes.
  • Ensuring programs, services and amenities are accessible for persons with disabilities.
  • Encouraging and supporting intergenerational opportunities.
  • Identifying locations throughout the Town, such as parks, trails and pathways where additional seating and rest areas would be beneficial to persons with mobility issues.
  • Developing a program to assist older adults in the winter months with snow clearing.
Goal 4 - To enhance programs and services and to continue to support existing partnerships while forming new ones

This goal will be achieved through the following:

  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive list of organizations that provide services and programs, and a list of current and potential partnerships that the Town can build on.
  • Advocating for local businesses to consider special considerations for older adults such as special drop-off or parking areas; discount days; free transportation to and from shopping centres, stores and restaurants.
Goal 5 - To improve community outreach

This goal will be achieved through the following:

  • Enhancing advertisement opportunities of programs, services and information.
  • Advocating to higher levels of government for additional financial support.
Goal 6 - To support additional transportation resources for adults aged 55+ in the community

This goal will be achieved through the following:

  • Exploring and advocating for partnership opportunities with non-profits, agencies, bus companies and neighbouring public transportation providers.

  • Participating in community fund raising efforts for transportation initiatives and resources.
  • Lobbying the Provincial and Federal Government for additional financial support.
