Rehabilitation Master Plan
The Town's Official Plan requires the preparation of a Rehabilitation Master Plan (RMP) for areas in the Town of Caledon with a high concentration of mineral aggregate operations. The RMP will consider how to restore and repurpose lands with many aggregate pits that border each other and that are within a geographical area for future development while taking community interests into account.
Rehabilitation Master Plan Report
Aggregate areas
The following 10 areas in Caledon have been identified to have a high concentration of mineral aggregate operations:
- Alton West
- Mono Mills
- Belfountain (sand and gravel and bedrock resource)
- The Grange
- Inglewood
- Orangeville
- Melville
- Caledon (sand and gravel and bedrock resource)
- Caledon East/Centreville
- Humber
The Belfountain and Caledon sand and gravel resource areas (Areas 5a and 6a on the map) have been selected to be the first areas of Caledon to have a RMP. This RMP will serve as the model for all the other areas in Caledon.
RMP process
A two-phased process is proposed for the development of the RMP.
Phase 1 involves:
- Engagement with key stakeholders for information and input
- Developing a Terms of Reference for the preparation of the RMP
Phase 2 involves:
- Development of the actual RMP
- Creating a strategic plan for implementing the RMP
- Creating an RMP Consultation Plan
The Town is working with land owners, indigenous groups, key stakeholders and members of the public to develop this first (model) RMP for Caledon.
