Town of Caledon launches Residential Rental Licensing program
CALEDON, ON (September 8, 2026) – The Town of Caledon is launching its new Residential Rental Licensing (RRL) Program, an initiative designed to improve the safety, quality and accountability of rental housing across the community.
The program helps protect tenants and neighbourhoods by addressing issues such as overcrowding, illegal units and poor property maintenance, while supporting responsible landlords.
Properties providing a short-term rental accommodation will require a license. Hotels, motels, group homes and student housing that have completed the Town’s required planning approvals are exempt.
“The Residential Rental Licensing Program is about ensuring rental housing in Caledon is safe and meets established standards,” said Judith D’Souza Soares, Commissioner of Community Services. “This program provides greater clarity for property owners, helps protect renters and supports strong, healthy neighbourhoods across the town.”
The program will roll out in phases, with short-term rentals launching September 8, 2026, followed by long-term rentals in 2027. Introductory licensing rates will be available for a limited time after launch. Licensed properties must comply with Ontario Building and Fire Codes and Town property standards and may be subject to inspections.
