Some businesses in Caledon require a licence. We licence adult entertainment facilities, tow trucks, pound facilities, taxi and limousine services, food & refreshment vehicles, temporary restaurant patios and donation boxes.

Tow Trucks

There are a variety of different licences that you need to own and operate a tow truck company in Caledon. Tow truck vehicle licences and company licences expire one year after being issued. Applications and required supplementary documents may be submitted via email to enforcement@caledon.ca or in person. To submit an application in person, you will need to book an appointment. To operate a tow truck company, you need to:

Vehicle Licence

You need to submit an application for each tow truck vehicle. To get a tow truck vehicle licence, you need to:

  • Complete and submit a Tow Truck Vehicle application
  • Provide a Certificate of Insurance
  • Pay a licensing fee of $425.00 for the first truck for a new company and $400.00 for additional trucks.
  • A fee of $60 will also apply for a missed or additional vehicle inspection.

Driver's Licence

To drive a tow truck, you need a tow truck driver's licence:

  • Complete and submit a Tow Truck Driver application
  • Pay a licensing fee of $150.00 for a one year licence or $300.00 for a two year licence.

Pound Facilities

If you own and operate a pound facility in Caledon, you are required to obtain an operator licence. Every pound facility must be in compliance with the Zoning By-law and is subject to an inspection as part of the licensing process. Applications and required supplementary documents may be submitted via email to enforcement@caledon.ca or in person. Do you own a food truck, ice-cream truck or other food or refreshment vehicle? You need to get a licence in order to own and operate the vehicle. To work in a food & refreshment vehicle, each attendant requires a licence. To get a licence, you need to:

  • Complete a Food & Refreshment Vehicle Attendant application
  • Pay a $150.00 licensing fee. If the Operator is also an Attendant, this fee will be waived.

Special Event Food & Refreshment Vehicle Licence

This licence is for individuals who have a food & refreshment vehicle and are only intending on operating at special events in Caledon. In this case, the Special Event Food & Refreshment Vehicle Licence can be used for up to 3 special events in the calendar year. If the vehicle will be operated at more than 3 special events, then an Operator, Vehicle and Attendant Licence will be required.

If you would like to set up a temporary patio adjacent to your restaurant business, you need to get a licence. The patios are permitted during the patio season of May 1 to October 31 and can be placed on either private property or on a sidewalk in Downtown Bolton. To apply for a licence, click here.
