Town of Caledon launches Housing Design Catalogue to support faster, more flexible housing options

Caledon Named Local Partner with CMHC through the Housing Accelerator Fund

CALEDON, ON (August 10, 2026) - The Town of Caledon has launched its new Housing Design Catalogue, a practical tool that will help homeowners, builders, and designers bring more affordable housing options to the market faster.

Delivered in partnership with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the catalogue provides access to free, standardized housing designs that support gentle density, including accessory dwelling units and small multi-unit buildings such as fourplexes. The designs have been pre-reviewed in alignment with the Ontario Building Code, helping to reduce design costs and streamline approval processes.

“Caledon is taking meaningful action to make housing more attainable for our residents,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “By launching this Housing Design Catalogue, we’re reducing barriers, saving time and costs, and giving homeowners and builders practical tools to create more housing choices that fit within our community.”

Caledon’s participation as a CMHC Local Partner represents another key milestone in the Town’s progress under the federal Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF), which supports municipalities in removing barriers to housing supply and improving housing options.

“Pre-reviewing the Housing Design Catalogue is another tangible step we’re taking to make it easier to build more homes in Caledon,” said Eric Lucic, Commissioner of Planning and Development & Chief Planner, Town of Caledon. “By pairing pre-reviewed designs with our recent zoning updates and incentive programs, we’re giving residents and builders clearer, faster pathways to create housing that fits within existing neighbourhoods.”

Designs in the Housing Design Catalogue are tailored to Ontario’s Building Code, climate conditions, and construction practices. While specific site considerations still need to be reviewed for final approval, the Town’s pre-review of select designs can help speed up building permit review timelines by minimizing the need for redesign.

“Today, as partners, we’re building a stronger Canada,” commented Jennifer McKelvie, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Member of Parliament for Ajax. “Looking around me, I know that while each of us has different solutions to share, we share the same goal: to increase residential construction and ensure that everyone in Canada has a place to live.”
