Town of Caledon Delegation Heads to Italy to Strengthen Sister-City Ties and Advance Economic Growth

CALEDON, ON (June 3, 2025) — The Town of Caledon is expanding on its existing Sister City partnership with Isola del Liri, Italy, through a formal trade delegation taking place in June. Building on the foundation of cultural and tourism exchanges, this delegation adds a significant focus on economic development and investment attraction in key sectors, including agri-food and food processing.

Supported by the Government of Canada’s CanExport Community Investments Program,  the Canadian Trade Commissioners Service team and the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario Canada, the visit will allow the Town to engage directly with Italian businesses interested in expanding to North America. The mission supports Caledon’s broader economic development goals by encouraging foreign direct investment (FDI) fostering international partnerships that align with local strengths.

“Our relationship with Italy goes beyond cultural exchange—it’s an opportunity to connect with businesses that share our values and sector strengths,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “This delegation is about showcasing Caledon as a competitive, welcoming destination for investment while strengthening our sister-city bonds.”

The delegation aligns with Caledon’s goal to support a thriving local economy and create high-quality jobs for residents, as outlined in the Strategic Plan. It will highlight Caledon’s strong food and beverage ecosystem, strategic GTA location, and robust transportation infrastructure.

“This trade mission demonstrates how Caledon is taking a proactive, strategic approach to economic growth,” added Nathan Hyde, CAO. “By aligning international outreach with our key sector strengths, we’re opening doors to new investment, innovation, and long-term job creation for our community.”

The trade mission is part of a broader commitment under the Sister City Agreement to advance cultural, tourism, educational, and economic ties.
