Town of Caledon breaks ground on new Provincial Offences Courthouse

CALEDON, ON (October 7, 2026) – The Town of Caledon has officially broken ground on its new Provincial Offences Act (POA) Courthouse, a significant investment of about $30 million allocated to providing modern, accessible and sustainable civic infrastructure that will enhance the delivery of judicial and administrative services for the community.

“This groundbreaking marks an important milestone for our community and our continued commitment to delivering efficient, accessible public services,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “By strengthening our justice infrastructure and supporting public safety, this modern courthouse will serve residents, businesses and Caledon’s growing community for generations to come.”

Located southeast of Town Hall off Innis Lake Road, the new courthouse will serve as a dedicated civic and institutional facility supporting the Town’s POA operations. Designed to strengthen the Caledon Town Hall Campus, the project will improve public access to judicial and administrative services while supporting long-term growth and integration within the community.

The approximately 2,295-square-metre, one-storey building will include dedicated courtroom spaces, judicial offices, court administration functions, Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS) services, and a designated prosecution area. The facility has been designed to promote operational efficiency, accessibility, and equitable access to services.

“The new courthouse is an important investment in Caledon’s future and in the safety and well-being of our community,” said Nathan Hyde, Chief Administrative Officer. “It will strengthen access to local justice services while combining innovative design, energy-efficient building features, accessibility and efficient service delivery to meet the needs of our growing community and provide long-term value for residents.”

Sustainability is a key component of the project, with features including fully electric building systems, a high-performance building envelope, rooftop solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations. These elements will help reduce energy consumption and further support the Town’s net zero goals.

The site has also been designed to prioritize accessibility and connectivity. New pedestrian links will connect the courthouse entrance to existing parking areas and the multi-use trail network, creating seamless access throughout the civic campus.

“We are proud to partner with the Town of Caledon on a project that will serve residents for decades to come,” said Sean Smithson, Pomerleau’s Regional Vice President. “This new courthouse represents a shared commitment to quality, innovation and sustainability. Our team looks forward to delivering a modern, energy-efficient facility that supports the community’s evolving needs and enhances access to important public services."

Construction is now underway with the anticipated completion date of winter 2028.
