The Town of Caledon appoints John W. Lane, Director of Building Services & Chief Building Official

Caledon, ON (September 2, 2025) - The Town of Caledon announces the appointment of John W. Lane as the new Director of Building Services and Chief Building Official (CBO) effective September 8, 2025. 

John has over 37 years of experience in municipal building services, including 24 years in senior leadership roles. Most recently, he served as Chief Building Official for the City of St. Catharines, where he led strategic initiatives to streamline permit applications, enhance inspection services and improve stakeholder engagement. 

Prior to that, John spent two decades with the City of Hamilton as Deputy Chief Building Official and Manager of Building Inspections, where he was instrumental in implementing innovative service delivery models and workforce restructuring to improve efficiency and accountability. 

John is the President Elect of the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA), a Member of the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario, Certified Building Code Official and Certified Property Standards Officer, and has completed advanced leadership training through the Schulich School of Business at York University. He is also a long-time instructor and advisor at Mohawk College, contributing to the development of future building professionals.
