Caledon becomes first municipality to partner with Vector to advance responsible AI innovation
October 15, 2026 (CALEDON, ON) – The Town of Caledon is taking another step forward in modernizing municipal government through a new partnership with the Vector Institute, one of Canada’s leading national artificial intelligence (AI) institutes. Vector is a not-for-profit organization that helps Canadian organizations, academic institutions, and government partners develop the skills, frameworks, and talent needed to innovate using AI.
The partnership will help the Town identify, develop, and test practical AI solutions that can improve how municipal services are delivered, increase organizational efficiency, and build AI knowledge and capacity across the organization. Caledon is the first municipality to enter this type of partnership with the Vector Institute, positioning the Town at the forefront of responsible AI adoption in local government.
“Caledon is a growing community, and that means we need to continually look for smarter, more innovative ways to serve our residents,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “This partnership gives us access to some of Canada’s leading AI expertise while ensuring we approach this technology responsibly and with a clear focus on delivering better outcomes for our community.”
Through this partnership, Caledon and Vector will work together to turn promising AI opportunities into practical solutions, from setting priorities and validating use cases to developing prototypes and supporting implementation.
“Municipalities are increasingly exploring how artificial intelligence can help improve service delivery and operational effectiveness,” said Roxana Sultan, Chief Partnerships Officer, Vector Institute. “We are pleased to partner with the Town of Caledon to transform our world-class research into trusted, practical solutions that serve the public.”
The Town will benefit from Vector’s AI research and expertise, proven best practices, project management, and technical support. A key focus will be exploring and evaluating potential AI applications before making investments, allowing the Town to test ideas, learn quickly, and scale solutions that deliver meaningful value.
“Artificial intelligence has enormous potential to change the way municipalities work, but innovation needs to be purposeful,” said Nathan Hyde, Chief Administrative Officer, Town of Caledon. “Working with Vector gives us the expertise and structure to explore AI responsibly, test solutions before we scale them and focus our investments on tools that can make a real difference for our staff and residents.”
As Caledon continues to grow, the Town is committed to embracing innovation that improves service delivery, strengthens organizational effectiveness, and ensures public resources are used efficiently.
