Province approves Caledon’s Official Plan, paving the way for responsible growth
CALEDON, ON (October 22, 2025) – The Town of Caledon is pleased to announce that the Province of Ontario has approved the Future Caledon Official Plan, a comprehensive blueprint that will guide the Town’s growth and development through 2051.
The Plan outlines a vision for a thriving, inclusive and sustainable Caledon, with policies that support housing diversity, job creation, environmental protection and vibrant rural and urban communities.
“This is a major milestone for Caledon. The Future Caledon Official Plan reflects the voices of our residents and sets a clear path forward for responsible growth,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “I want to thank the Province for their cooperation throughout this process and extend my sincere appreciation to staff and everyone in our community who contributed their time and voices to help shape Caledon’s future.”
The development of the Future Caledon Official Plan was a multi-year process with input from countless local voices. The Plan is organized around five key focus areas: natural resources and agriculture; climate action; tourism, heritage, community well-being, and culture; transportation, technology, and infrastructure; and growth, settlement, housing, and employment.
“Provincial approval of the Plan allows us to move forward with confidence. It’s the result of years of collaboration and community engagement, and we’re ready to deliver on the vision Caledon has set,” commented CAO Nathan Hyde.
The Town will begin rolling out Phase 1 of the Plan, establishing the Town’s long-term vision and foundational policies for growth to 2051. This includes land use structure, rural and urban systems; environmental protection and growth management aligned with regional targets. It sets the stage for future development while preserving Caledon’s unique character and natural heritage.
Phases 2 and 3 of the Future Caledon Official Plan will build on the foundational policies of Phase 1 by updating specific areas such as transit station planning, mineral aggregate policies, truck parking and the Bolton Secondary Plan (Phase 2), followed by a comprehensive review and update of existing secondary plans and the creation of new ones for emerging growth areas (Phase 3). Phase 2 is expected to begin in 2026, followed by Phase 3 involving a review and update.
“The Future Caledon Official Plan provides a robust framework for directing growth. We’re proud of the work that’s gone into this and look forward to implementing policies that support complete communities and protect our natural heritage,” commented Eric Lucic, Commissioner of Planning and Development and Chief Planner.
