Media Statement - January 23, 2026
The Town would like to provide clarification regarding information referenced in an article published in the Caledon Enterprise on January 22, 2026 (“Toronto police pursue no charges in complaint against Caledon councillor”).
The Town has not prevented or “blocked” any councillor from sharing information or engaging transparently with the public. Decisions regarding what content can be included on a Council agenda are guided by the Town’s Procedure By-law and applicable legal requirements. In this instance, the Town also sought confirmation from external municipal legal counsel to confirm the reasoning.
While member correspondence cannot be included on a Council agenda under these rules, staff clearly outlined alternative and appropriate avenues for the information to be shared publicly, including providing an update at the upcoming Town Council meeting on January 27, 2026, or through the Councillor’s own communication channels.
The Town remains committed to supporting transparency and open public discourse, while also ensuring fairness, consistency, and compliance with governance and legal obligations for all members of Council. These responsibilities are fundamental to maintaining public trust and ensuring that municipal processes are applied equitably.
