Caledon Celebrates Successful Student Co-op and Encourages Youth to Explore Local Opportunities

CALEDON, ON (July 14, 2025) – The Town of Caledon is proud to celebrate the successful completion of another inspiring student co-op placement.

This year, eight students participated in various departments across the organization including Animal Services, Facilities, Fleet, MLE, Operations, and People Services. This program gives local students a valuable glimpse into the meaningful work happening right in their own community — and the many career paths available to them here at home.

The co-op program is available to high schools in Caledon and not only allows students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom, but also helps them connect with the people, services, and industries shaping their community.

“Programs like this one show the power of investing in our youth,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “By giving students the chance to engage with different departments in the Town, we’re helping them see the range of meaningful careers available right here in Caledon. I want to thank Councillor Maskell, Councillor Rosa, and the other members of Council who have championed and supported this initiative—it’s because of their commitment that we continue to see such positive outcomes for our young people. Together, we’re building pathways for the next generation of leaders and changemakers.”

Councillors Maskell and Rosa have been instrumental in revitalizing the Town’s student co-op program, bringing fresh energy and purpose to the initiative. As high school teachers in Caledon, they understand the importance of creating real-world learning opportunities for students and recognized a growing need for more hands-on experiences within the communityThe program gives students the chance to learn directly from adults working in public service, while also contributing their own perspectives and energy. Councillors Maskell and Rosa's commitment has made it possible for more students to explore future careers, gain confidence, and feel a stronger sense of belonging in their community.

“Supporting local youth through experiential learning is a cornerstone of our community-building efforts,” said CAO Nathan Hyde. “The co-op program allows students to develop real-world skills, gain confidence, and explore careers in public service—all while contributing to their own hometown. We’re proud to provide these opportunities and look forward to continuing to grow programs that connect students with their community and their future.”

Student co-op placement opportunities open in September and run from October to January and February to June.

In addition to high school co-op placements, the Town offers a range of other opportunities for students and community members, including college and university experiential learning opportunities and volunteer programs. These initiatives are part of the Town’s commitment to youth development, community engagement, and building a stronger future for all.
