Below you will find resources and information on transportation options, a community service directory and information on accessible businesses to help you to age in place in Caledon. 

Transportation

We believe it's important for you to be able to access local community services and stay active while you age and getting around Caledon can be a challenge. That's why we developed our Adult 55+ Transportation Resource Guide. To help you navigate what options are currently available in Caledon.

This guide includes both private and public transportation options and have been verified by the Seniors' Task Force members for accuracy and availability.

Did you know?
There are two specialty transportation services available to Caledon residents to help you get around Town. 
Caledon Community Services and TransHelp are accessible transportation options with wheelchair access buses, passenger vans and cars that can take you to medical appointments, shopping or to community programs. Please note registration in advance is required.

Bayshore Home Health - Private paid transportation designed to bring people home from the hospital and provide transportation to medical appointments. Transportation available within and outside of Caledon. The service is open to all ages.

Caledon Community Services

Caledon Community Services

  • Door to door accessible transportation service available daily for Caledon older adults, and people with disabilities. Transportation to: medical appointments, grocery shopping, day and wellness programs, support groups and social events.
  • An additional service: transportation for Caledon residents aged 8-59 wishing to attend a medical appointment, wellness and employment programs, support groups within Caledon or transfer points to access public transit between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Canadian Cancer Society - Toronto, Peel, Southern York Regional Community Office

Wheels of Hope - this program is intended to assist eligible clients and provide an escort for support (if required) with short-term travel (round trip) to attend cancer specific medical appointments or supportive care services. Appointments must be by a medical professional recognized by Ontario’s Health Care System.

Provides door-to-door transportation services in the GTA to seniors (55+) and persons with mobility challenges. Services provided 7 days a week with appointment. Medical only appointments on Saturdays.

Provides seniors living at home with personalized. Staff are fully insured, must have an OPP Vulnerable Sector check and have clean driving abstracts from the Ministry of Transportation. Trip must be within a 100 km radius (exceptions will be made for trips to the Airport).

Peel Public Works Accessible Transportation
TransHelp

This is the Region of Peel’s accessible transportation service for residents with disabilities. 

TransHelp now accepts applications from residents with physical, cognitive, visual, sensory, or mental health disabilities who are not able to use conventional public transit services some or all of the time. It is a prepaid service so passengers are required to monitor the fare balances in their accounts to avoid being refused a trip. Passengers are encouraged to use wheelchairs/scooters that comply with CSA standards. 

TransHelp is a service shared with other passengers and multiple destinations. 

 

Taxi Script

A subsidized taxi service for TransHelp passenger only. To use a Taxi Script, call one of the participating taxi vendors on the day of your ride to arrange pick-up. Ensure to tell the taxi company if you need a wheel chair accessible vehicle. You can pay for your trip with only taxi scripts or taxi scripts + cash.

Ride With Care

Ride With Care

Provides non-emergency transportation services for seniors and those with disabilities or special needs. Clients using a wheelchair or walker must be able to transfer independently or with driver’s assistance.

Services include medical appointments, dialysis round trips, dental appointments as well as personal and leisure activities such a shopping, visiting friends and family, attending religious services, running errands.

We encourage businesses in Caledon to remove accessibility barriers. This will help attract more customers, potentially raise profits and make our community more accessible. Review some of the tips below to help make your business more accessible:

  • Clear snow from walkways and parking spaces
  • Add a handrail, power door opener and ramp to your entrance
  • Remove trip hazards
  • Install service counters at a lower height for better access
  • Provide seating and resting places
  • Use clear language, large print and high contrast on signage
