Tails of Hope Fund

Every animal that arrives at our shelter carries a story that didn’t end the way it should have, but it doesn’t have to end there. The Tails of Hope Fund exists to rewrite those stories, giving injured, abandoned, and neglected animals the medical care, shelter, enrichment, and compassion they need to begin again. From emergency treatment and recovery care to daily comfort, play, and enrichment activities that help rebuild trust and confidence, your support ensures that no animal is left without hope. Each donation becomes warmth in a kennel, medicine for healing, nutritious food for strength, toys for play, and time for trust to grow again. Together, we’re not just caring for animals, we’re giving them back their futures, one happy tail at a time.

The shelter is currently in need of hard chew toys for large dogs, such as Nylabones and Benebones, as well as large blankets and comforters.

Happy 'Tails'

Below are happy 'tails' (stories) of how donations have been used to successfully heal some of our animals.

Casper's Story

Casper

Casper arrived at the Caledon Animal Services as many strays do, quiet, uncertain, and carrying more than just the weight of being lost. The large, gentle Great Pyrenees had clearly been on his own for some time, but it quickly became evident that something more serious was wrong. He began limping, struggling to put weight on his back leg. A veterinary exam confirmed the diagnosis: a torn ACL.

For a dog like Casper, this wasn’t just a minor setback. Without surgery, his mobility, and quality of life, would be severely limited.

With the support of dedicated staff and community-funded resources, Casper underwent the surgery he needed. It was a significant procedure, followed by weeks of careful monitoring, pain management, and rehabilitation. Shelter staff committed themselves fully to his recovery, guiding him through extended physiotherapy, encouraging each small step forward.

It was a long road to recovery but with patience and consistent care, his strength began to return. The dog who once struggled to stand slowly regained his confidence, his signature gentle nature shining through more with each passing day.

And then came the moment everyone had been hoping for, Casper found his home.

A family saw beyond his past and recognized the resilient, loving companion he had become. Today, Casper is thriving in a safe, caring environment where he can run, rest, and simply be a dog again.

Casper’s story is one of compassion, commitment, and community. The care he received from surgery to rehabilitation, was only possible because of the support of donors. Every contribution helps provide animals like Casper with not just shelter, but a real second chance.

When you donate to Caledon Animal Services, you’re doing more than giving funds, you’re helping write stories like Casper’s.

Matilda's Story

Matilda before surgery

She arrived with no name, just painful, squinting eyes and a quiet, gentle spirit. Staff soon gave her one: Matilda.

Diagnosed with entropion, a condition where the eyelids roll inward and cause constant pain, Matilda faced a difficult road. But despite it all, she remained trusting, leaning into every bit of care she was given.

Thanks to donor support, the shelter was able to provide corrective surgery. As she healed, the change was incredible, the redness faded, the squinting stopped, and for the first time, Matilda could see clearly without pain.

Her personality blossomed.

The once-uncomfortable stray now greeted staff with bright eyes and a wagging tail. Before long, she found a loving home where she continues to thrive.

Matilda’s story is what your donations make possible, real care, real healing, and real second chances.

Paisley's Story

Paisley injury

Five-month-old Paisley should have been discovering the world with a wagging tail and carefree puppy energy. Instead, she arrived frightened, filthy, and in obvious pain.

Staff quickly discovered the extent of her injuries, a fractured nasal bone with a severe abscess, another painful abscess under her jaw, and a large seroma on the left side of her cranium. Her tiny body showed signs of neglect, and despite everything she had endured, Paisley still leaned gently into the hands trying to help her.

Over the following weeks, shelter staff worked tirelessly to give Paisley the care she desperately needed. She received veterinary treatment, medications, wound care, pain management, nutritious meals, and endless comfort. Slowly, the scared and suffering puppy began to heal.

Day by day, Paisley’s personality started to shine through. Her tail wagged a little more. Her eyes softened. The puppy who once arrived broken and alone began learning what safety and love truly felt like.

Cases like Paisley’s are heartbreaking, but they are also why animal shelters matter.

Animals like Paisley rely on compassionate supporters to receive lifesaving medical care and a second chance. Donations help provide emergency veterinary treatment, medications, rehabilitation, food, and comfort for vulnerable animals with nowhere else to turn.

Because of support from the community, Paisley’s story did not end in pain. It became a story of healing, hope, and new beginnings.

Your donation helps make stories like hers possible.

Abandoned Kittens Story

One of the infected kittens

It didn’t begin with four Scottish Fold kittens all at once.

The first was found alone in a wooded area, four months old, frightened, and already showing signs of hair loss and irritated skin. Then came the second. A few days later, the third.

Over time, all four were brought in, each found separately in the same area, each abandoned, each needing help. Though they didn’t arrive together, it quickly became clear they shared the same story.

All four kittens were suffering from ringworm, a contagious fungal infection that requires strict isolation, daily care, and weeks of treatment. Because of this, none of them could be placed for adoption right away. Instead, they became long-term residents, relying on staff for everything from medical care to comfort.

Treating ringworm isn’t simple. Each kitten required routine medicated baths, topical treatments, and careful monitoring. Their spaces had to be thoroughly disinfected every day to prevent the infection from spreading. Staff followed strict protocols, changing protective gear, sanitizing equipment, and dedicating time each day to ensure every kitten stayed on track for recovery.

It was a commitment measured not in days, but in weeks. And slowly, that commitment paid off. Their fur began to grow back. Their skin healed. Their energy returned.

What started as scared, uncomfortable kittens turned into playful, affectionate companions. Despite everything they had been through, they remained gentle and trusting, eager for attention, toys, and human connection.

One by one, they were cleared medically. And then, one by one, they found homes.

Each kitten was adopted into a loving family, no longer defined by abandonment or illness, but by the life ahead of them.

Four separate rescues. Four individual recoveries. Four happy endings.

This is what your support makes possible.

Cases like these require significant time, resources, and care, medical treatments, cleaning supplies, staff hours, and dedicated space within the shelter. Without community donations, providing this level of care simply wouldn’t be possible.

Your donations turn moments of abandonment into stories of hope. They give animals the time they need to heal. They make happy endings like this one possible.

If you’ve ever wondered what your support truly does, this is it.

Four kittens are living proof.
