Drop-In Activities

Drop-in activities provide flexibility for those who want to stay active without committing to scheduled classes. Get active with fitness and wellness drop-ins like aerobics, ZUMBA®, Pilates, and strength training. Lace up your skates for shinny, family and public skates with our skating drop-ins, or take on the rock wall and sports like badminton, basketball, pickleball or volleyball in our sport drop-ins. With our swimming drop-ins, enjoy a public swim, participate in a parent and child swim, or challenge yourself in Aquafit or a fitness swim.

Register for drop-in activities

Starting January 24, 2026, participants will have the option to register in advance for most drop-in recreation activities. Previously, participants could only show up on-site. Now, you can secure your spot early or continue to walk in, depending on space availability and the activity type. This update helps make drop-in activities more fair and convenient for everyone by:

  • Allowing you to guarantee your spot before arriving.

  • Reducing wait times and lineups at the Customer Service desk.

  • Supporting safety and fairness by ensuring activities stay within capacity limits.

  • Providing live capacity updates so you can see how many spots remain in an activity before heading to the facility.

When can I register?

Registration opens at different times depending on your residency or membership status:

  • Residents and Members: 49 hours (2 days + 1 hour) before the activity start time.

  • Non-Residents: 25 hours (1 day + 1 hour) before the activity start time.

Registration stays open until the session begins or until it’s full.

Which activities can be registered in advance?

Most drop-ins with a set start and end time and limited capacity will be available for advance registration such as pickleball, badminton, aquafit, fitness and wellness, and shinny.

Drop-ins where you can enter and leave at any time during the session such as public swims, public skates, and fitness swims, as well as facility amenities like walking tracks and weight and cardio areas within fitness centres, do not require registration — you can just show up and participate, space permitting.

Unsure whether a drop-in allows advance registration? Check the activity listing online or in the mobile app. If the session has registration dates listed or a “Register” button, you can register in advance. If it doesn’t, advance registration isn’t available — just visit the facility and join in person. If you have questions about whether a particular drop-in activity allows advance registration, please contact Recreation Customer Service for assistance.

How do I register?

You can register the same way you would for any of our registered programs or courses — the process is quick and familiar if you’ve used our system before. You have three convenient options:

Register on the app

The Caledon Recreation Mobile App is the easiest way to register, review your upcoming schedules, and check in upon arrival.

  • Browse drop-in activities and register in just a few taps.

  • View and manage your personal schedule anytime.

  • Use your digital membership card in the app to scan and check in when you arrive.

Do I pay when I register online?

Yes. If there’s a fee for the activity, you’ll be prompted to pay during registration. If your membership or pass covers the activity, no additional fee will appear at checkout.

Specialized pricing options such as group, student, or other discounted single visit fees are not available online or through the app. To receive those rates, please register in person or by phone through Recreation Customer Service.

You can register and pay for one or more family members in a single transaction. When registering online or in the Caledon Recreation Mobile App, just select the names of everyone you’d like to include before checkout.

Do I have to register for each session?

Yes. Each drop-in session is booked individually, even if you attend regularly. Registration opens before each date so everyone has a fair chance to participate.

Registration times vary depending on whether you’re a member, resident, or non-resident. See When can I register? for full details.

Can I still walk in without registering?

Yes. Walk-ins are still welcome; however, advance registration is strongly recommended to guarantee your spot.

If you don’t register in advance, you can arrive on-site and participate if space is available. Walk-ins are admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.

How do I know if I'm on the roster?

You’ll receive an email confirmation immediately after registering for a drop-in activity. This email confirms that your registration was successful and your spot has been reserved.

You can also view your upcoming sessions anytime in your online recreation account or through the Caledon Recreation Mobile App under “My Schedule.”

How do I check in when I arrive?

Check-in works exactly the same way you’re used to — the only difference is that those who registered in advance will already have a spot reserved.

  • Check-in opens 30 minutes before the session start time.

  • You must be physically present at the desk to be checked in.
  • Show your digital membership card in the mobile app, or your physical card at the desk.

  • Staff will confirm your registration or admit you as a walk-in if space is available.

  • After the 5-minute grace period following the start time, unclaimed spots may be released to walk-ins.

Grace Period: The grace period is a short, 5-minute window after the activity begins that gives registered participants a little extra time to arrive before their spot is offered to someone waiting on-site.

What if I'm running late or don't show up?

If you’re running late, you have a 5-minute grace period after the start time to check in before your spot is released and you are marked as a no-show.

Grace Period: The grace period is a short, 5-minute window after the activity begins that gives registered participants a little extra time to arrive before their spot is offered to someone waiting on-site.

Once marked as a no-show, your spot may be given to another participant waiting on-site and a penalty may apply based on how you paid:

  • Single Visit / Pay-As-You-Go: your admission fee is kept as a penalty.

  • 10-Visit / Complimentary Pass: one visit is deducted.

  • Term Memberships (1-Month, 3-Month, Annual): a monetary fee may apply as outlined in the Fee By-law.

If you arrive after being marked as a no-show, you can still join the activity as a walk-in (space permitting) up to 10 minutes after the start time, but you’ll need to use another visit from your pass or pay the single-visit fee again, if applicable.

To avoid penalties, please withdraw before the session start time if you’re unable to attend. You can manage your bookings anytime using the Caledon Recreation Mobile App or your online recreation account.

What if I can’t attend after registering?

If you register but can’t make it, please withdraw before the session starts so someone else can take your spot.

You can withdraw through the website, mobile app, by phone, or in person at any recreation centre. If you don’t cancel before the start time, you’ll be marked as a no-show and penalties may apply.

Withdraw from an activity  Cancellations and withdrawals

Can I attend two sessions in a row?

You should not register in advance for two consecutive (back-to-back) sessions of the same activity at the same location. If you register in advance for consecutive sessions, you may be withdrawn from the second session without notice to allow other participants the opportunity to attend.

Back-to-Back Sessions: when a participant registers for two consecutive sessions of the same drop-in activity at the same location (for example, two back-to-back pickleball or badminton sessions).

You’re welcome to check in for the first session you registered for and, if space remains available afterward, ask Customer Service if you can join the next session as a walk-in. This approach helps ensure that everyone has fair access to popular drop-in activities.

What happens if the Town cancels a drop-in session?

Sometimes sessions may need to be cancelled by the Town due to unforeseen circumstances such as facility maintenance, weather conditions, or staffing shortages.

If a session is cancelled:

  • Participants who registered in advance will receive a cancellation notice by email as soon as possible.

  • Account credits will automatically be applied to those who paid a single visit fee.

  • Members and pass holders (e.g., term-based, 10-visit, or complimentary passes) will not lose a visit for cancelled sessions.

If you’re unsure whether your session is running, please check the mobile app or online schedule before heading out, or contact Recreation Customer Service.

Admission fees

Single visit, drop-in rates are set through our Fee By-law as part of our annual budget. Single visits are a great way to get active without the commitment of a membership. All admission fees include HST.

For those interested in attending regularly, we recommend considering one of our memberships. These provide more consistent access to our recreational facilities and activities, helping you stay active while enjoying the best value.

Free Drop-In for Goalies: We’re making shinny and floor hockey more exciting for everyone! To improve the game experience, we’re introducing a special pilot program: goalies can now join drop-in sessions at no cost. Learn more
