Skate Loop ribbon cutting highlights Family Day!

Public skating at a community centre

February 2, 2023 – The John Clarkson Park Skate Loop is set to officially open on Family Day this year. On Monday, February 20, members of Council will be in attendance to cut the ribbon, opening the skate loop, and marking the completion of the skate loop project.

Over the last year, ice chilling equipment and a pumping system were installed at John Clarkson Park to help create the ice surface along the pre-existing concrete pad loop. Tubes carry the cooling liquid under the concrete allowing for ice to be maintained on top, resulting in an ice surface that is less impacted by warmer days throughout the winter.

“It’s exciting to see the completion of this project offering a unique outdoor skating surface open for our residents to enjoy,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “It’s important that the Town continues to provide a variety of options for staying active to our residents, and the opening of the John Clarkson Park Skate Loop is another example of those efforts.”

The new skate loop is open for public use daily, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
