Council and Staff advocate for Caledon priorities at EDCO Queen’s Park Event

CALEDON, ON (November 21, 2023) – On November 20, Council and the Town of Caledon’s Economic Development team attended the Economic Development Council of Ontario (EDCO) Queen’s Park Event, engaging with Members of Provincial Parliament to champion Caledon's economic priorities. The event served as a platform to spotlight ongoing initiatives, discuss challenges and collaborate with fellow economic development professionals.

Mayor Annette Groves emphasized the importance of advocating for Caledon businesses to facilitate growth and innovation within the community. "Council and Staff are working collaboratively to garner support from the Provincial Government, aiming to foster a thriving local economy and ensure Caledon is strategically positioned for future growth," stated Mayor Groves.

During the event, Council and Staff brought forth a comprehensive set of priorities and issues for discussion, including:

  • Investment attraction in Caledon
  • Labour and training opportunities
  • Small business support
  • Agriculture/farm diversification
  • Reducing barriers to the workforce

Council attended meetings with Minister of Red Tape Reduction Parm Gill joined by MPP for Dufferin-Caledon, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones, and Associate Minister of Small Business Nina Tangri to discuss business support in Caledon, including addressing workforce challenges, barriers to investment and providing support to small businesses. Council and Staff advocated for a strategic partnership between the Town and the Provincial Government to attract diverse business sectors to Caledon’s greenfield employment lands to create high-quality jobs for residents.

“In the 2023-2035 Strategic Plan, we committed to launching investment attraction initiatives, enhancing business friendliness and promoting high quality job creation,” said Amanda St. John, Manager of Business Attraction and Investment. “Now, we are undertaking important, proactive work to deliver on these commitments, support businesses in Caledon and showcase the Town as a destination for business investment.”
