Caledon Council Community Golf Tournament Raises Record Funds

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sept. 7, 2022 - The 2022 Caledon Council Community Golf Tournament was held today at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley Golf Course in Caledon and raised a record amount of funds to support Caledon community organizations.

“It is wonderful this tournament has returned to help support the community. The event raises funds for community groups, charities and other organizations for important community initiatives that may not have access to other types of grants or funding,” said Tournament Chair, Mayor Allan Thompson. “This tournament has done a great deal for Caledon and I thank all that have supported and participated in it throughout the years to make it the success it has become especially with Caledon being recently announced as the new home for Golf Canada.”

The Caledon Council Community Golf Tournament began in 2004 to help support community initiatives and became an annual event.

“Funds raised from this year’s tournament will help Abbeyfield Caledon as the primary grant recipient put a new roof on their building,” said Tournament Vice-Chair, Councillor Christina Early. “Abbeyfield is a non-profit society dedicated to providing seniors with affordable and safe housing within their local community.”

In previous years, community organizations including Bethell Hospice, Alton Legion and Caledon Meals on Wheels have benefitted from the tournament to help carry out service to the community.

Groups are encouraged to submit applications for grant funding to be reviewed by Town staff using criteria and a report is brought forward for discussion and approval at Council. To be eligible for the primary grant, the group must be a non-profit organization located in Caledon or provides services for Caledon residents and requires funding for a community capital project. Visit Golf Tournament Committee for details.

Caledon was recently announced as the new home to Golf Canada’s national headquarters and the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and Museum. The vision for the Canadian golf campus on the grounds of TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley will feature the national headquarters for First Tee – Canada which will include a publicly accessible community putting green and an indoor training centre.
