Town of Caledon Wins Provincial Award for Innovation in Community Engagement

April 19, 2024 (CALEDON, ON) – The Town of Caledon is proud to announce that it has been honored with the prestigious Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Award by Parks and Recreation Ontario for its groundbreaking Diwali Drone Show.

The IDEA Award recognizes individuals and organizations championing equitable access to parks and recreation services, and the Diwali Drone Show perfectly embodies this spirit of inclusion, education, and community engagement. This innovative project not only celebrated the Festival of Lights but also showcased a revolutionary approach to community placemaking and set an example of innovating and responding to our community’s needs while adhering to fireworks bylaw regulations.

"Community events are vital to our community's livability and vitality. They bring us together, celebrate our diversity, and create lasting connections,” said Catherine McLean, Commissioner of Community and Human Services. “The Diwali Drone Show exemplifies our commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community."

The success of the Diwali Drone Show underscores the importance of expanding community events programs, a central pillar of our upcoming Parks and Recreation Strategy. By listening to residents, embracing innovation, and fostering collaboration, we continue to enhance the quality of life for all Caledon residents.
