Summer Road Maintenance

road

July 30, 2019 -- As part of our summer road maintenance program, several roads are being rehabilitated.

The process involves the following steps:

  • Pulverization, where the existing surface is churned up and relaid
  • Gravel lift, where gravel is added to fill in low areas and bring the roadbed up to level
  • Dust suppression, where a liquid is applied
  • Surface treatment, where either a “chip and tar” mix or asphalt is laid down.

Pulverization

The following roads have been pulverized:

  • Willoughby Road from County Road 109 to the railway crossing north of Beech Grove;
  • Saint Andrews Road from Olde Base Road to Escarpment Sideroad;
  • Old School Road from Bramalea Road to Airport Road;
  • Torbram Road from King Street to Mayfield Road;
  • Mount Pleasant Road from Castlederg Sideroad to Old Church Road; and
  • Mount Hope Road from Guardhouse Road to the dead end.

Gravel lift

Below is a status update on the gravel lifts:

  • Willoughby Road will be completed as of July 30
  • Old School Road will be done as of July 31
  • Saint Andrews Road will be starting July 31
  • Mount Pleasant Road will be starting July 31
  • Mount Hope Road will be starting July 31 and
  • Torbram Road will be starting after the Civic Holiday.

Dust suppression

Once gravel lifts are completed dust suppression will be applied on the road.

Surface treatment

The final step involves the application of either “chip and tar” or a hot mix of asphalt on roads approved by Council.

This phase begins Tuesday, August 6, 2019 on the east side of Caledon.

The project should be completed in three weeks (weather permitting).
