Tappinder Jhajj (TJ) had a lifelong dream of starting his own business that came true when he recently opened and launched Freshii Bolton. TJ believes Freshii provides great quality food that serves not just the residents of Bolton but visitors from the surrounding industrial area too.

Tell us about your business journey – is this your first experience with a franchise?

Yes, this is my first business and my first Freshii location! I have a lot of experience working for a franchisor in the auto industry, but first time being a franchisee. I have an MBA from McMaster University and my wife Mandip is a CGA-CPA; so we are business minded people. Much of my corporate career was spent helping automotive franchisees grow and build their business. And I think now it's the right time for me to do it for myself!

What made you want to start your own business? And why Freshii?

Having my own business has been a lifelong dream so it was just about looking for the right opportunity.  Freshii’s brand is about much more than just good food; one of our core values is "Let's Be Good to One Another" and I really believe in that. Freshii sponsor's WE Charity; and they also are focused on giving back as much as possible. Also, it is a Canadian brand, which is a big positive for me. Finally, the founder and CEO of Freshii, Matthew Corrin really impressed me with his vision and drive. I think the brand has a very bright future under Matthew’s direction.

Why did you choose Bolton (Caledon) as the location for your business?

The opportunity to open a franchise in Bolton came up through discussions with Freshii’s corporate division. I know Bolton quite well, as we live in Castlemore, which is a 15-minute drive from our location. Our daughter has taken ballet and swimming lessons at the Caledon Recreation Centre before, so we have made frequent trips to Caledon. Finally, our location in Bolton offers a great chance for us to reach the residents of Bolton and the businesses in the industrial area, giving us an opportunity to really do well.

You participated in the Jobs Caledon job fair; tell us about that experience, any luck finding the staff you need?

Yes, we did.  We actually hired 2 staff members through the job fair.

How many people do you employ? Are you still hiring?

We currently have a staff of 15, and they are all residents of Bolton or Caledon!  At this point, I believe we have a great team, but we are always looking for talented people and will continue to build the team as we grow!
