Fire Prevention Week - “Look. Listen. Learn.”

Fire Prevention Week

This Fire Prevention Week, October 7 – 13, 2018, Caledon Fire & Emergency Services remind residents that fires can happen anywhere in the home and often, occupants may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Knowing how to use that time wisely takes planning and practice and can save the lives of your family members.

“Situational awareness is a skill people should use wherever they go,” said Fire Chief Bailey. “No matter where you are, look for available exits. If the alarm system sounds, take it seriously and exit the building immediately.”

This year’s theme, “Look. Listen. Learn.” highlights three steps people can take to be proactive about fire safety and safely escaping in the event of a fire:

  1. Look for places a fire could start
  2. Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm
  3. Learn two ways out of every room

Residents are encouraged to follow the Town of Caledon on Facebook and Twitter to learn more about fire safety throughout during prevention week, along with the chance to enter into contests and win prizes.

Open Houses
