Council adopts Future Caledon Official Plan 

After thorough consultation with the public and community partners including 60 community engagement events, Council adopted the Town’s new Official Plan, “Future Caledon”. The new Official Plan lays out a detailed roadmap to help shape the future Caledon wants to see over the next 30 years. 

The Plan will direct services, land use and quality of life in our community across five focus areas: 

  1. Natural Resources and Agriculture
  2. Tourism, Heritage, Healthy Communities and Culture
  3. Transportation, Technology and Infrastructure
  4. Growth, Settlement, Housing and Employment
  5. Climate Change

The Official Plan will be submitted to the Region of Peel for approval. 

Mayor Groves advances housing needs 

Mayor Annette Groves advanced rezoning of 12 development applications to expedite almost 35,000 housing units in Caledon. This bold and unprecedented direction demonstrates Caledon's commitment to proactively tackling the local housing crisis and fostering sustainable growth in the community.  

This ground breaking and innovative initiative complements the adoption of the new Official Plan and the Province's award of $2.8 million to Caledon under the Building Faster Fund for its progress on its Housing Pledge earlier this month. 

A public meeting for the applications is expected to be held on April 25. This will be followed by a Council meeting on April 30 for the approval of the zoning by-laws. Notices for the meetings will be posted on our website and in print media. 

2024 Climate Action Fund Recommendations 

Council approved 11 eligible projects for this year’s Climate Action Fund. Each year, the Town provides grants to Caledon schools, non-profit organizations, Indigenous communities and others for environmental projects, programs and events. Project areas include addressing climate change, enhancing green space, improving stormwater retention, conducting public education and more.

2024 Bolton Business Improvement Area (BIA) 

Council approved the Bolton Business Improvement Area’s (BIA) 2024 Operating Budget Staff, authorizing staff to allocate funding in support of the BIA. The Bolton BIA was appointed by Council and is responsible for the improvement and maintenance of Town-owned lands, buildings and structures in the BIA. The committee works to promote the area as a business and shopping district. 

Mayfield Turf and Dome Update 

Staff were directed to explore contracting a qualified third-party to finance, supply, operate and maintain the seasonal dome, and potentially year-round turf, for the Town’s portion of the Mayfield Turf and Dome. 

Caledon Council Community Golf Tournament 

Council voted to continue hosting the annual Caledon Council Community Golf Tournament (CCGT) at Osprey Valley Golf Course with the event organized in partnership with Osprey Valley. Details of this year’s tournament will be provided as they become available. 

Caledon OPP provides quarterly update 

Caledon OPP Detachment Commander, MaryLouise Kearns provided an update to Council on criminal offences in the community, through the Q4 2023 report. Traffic and road safety remains a key focus for Caledon OPP as it strengthens enforcement, education and collaboration with its partners. Commander Kearns was also pleased to share the community is seeing an increased police presence with the welcoming of a dozen new recruits in recent months. 

Council supports Multicultural Day Event 2024 

Althea Alli, President and Founder of Dufferin County Multicultural Foundation, highlighted the Foundation’s progress in 2023 and gave an overview of the 2024 Multicultural Day on Thursday, June 27. In support of diversity, equity and equality within the community, Council moved to sponsor and support this year’s event.  

Council endorses Canada’s 9-8-8 crisis hotline 

Councillor Maskell brought forward a motion for the Town to endorse Canada’s new 9-8-8 mental health and crisis hotline. Council supported the motion and the Town will promote and display the initiative through its municipal facilities.
