Growth Concept and Future Development

Council approved a “made in Caledon” Growth Concept and a strategy to prepare for significant growth through preparation of a Growth Management and Phasing plan.

This approach to planning will improve the quality of life for Caledon residents while welcoming growth by creating smart growth processes, unique to Caledon, that benefits everyone.

Final adoption of Caledon’s Official Plan moves to 2023

Council approved moving the final adoption of Caledon’s Official Plan to 2023 to take further steps in its Official Plan review. Staff will continue advance the work on the Official Plan and bring forward a new Official Plan in 2023 for consideration. The additional time enables the Town to:

  • undertake additional public and agency consultation and
  • innovate around key areas and bring them forward as one  Official Plan leading to a more effective and user-friendly document 

Parks Plan and Parks Conveyance Bylaw

Council approved a Parks Plan and passed a Parkland Conveyance Bylaw for the Town of Caledon. The Parks Plan focuses on Caledon’s future parkland planning and acquisition to 2031 and considers growth targets until 2052. The Plan and the bylaw are the result of efforts of staff, residents, local school boards and other stakeholders. The Parks Plan and the Parkland Conveyance Bylaw supports the vision of the Official Plan of a sustainable, healthy, connected, and complete community.

New Business Licensing Bylaw

Council adopted a motion for a new Business Licensing Bylaw which aims to improve efficiency and introduces new licensing regimes.

Overall improvements include online application options, staggered expiry dates to relieve demand during expiration periods, and an updated renewal process.

Businesses unregulated by the Town that are now included under the new licensing regime includes private transportation companies, kennels, pet shops, towing storage facilities and restaurant patios.

For existing licenses, this bylaw comes into effect today, June 28, 2022.

For all new licenses, this bylaw comes into effect January 1, 2023.
