Special Council meeting - Future Caledon official plan review

January 25, 2022 -- Council met today for a staff presentation on Caledon’s official plan. It was an opportunity for Councillors to review the strategies that the Official Plan will employ to manage Caledon’s growth over the next 30 years.

The presentation highlighted a number of key policy directions that will be considered in all aspects of Caledon’s Official Plan. They are:

  • addressing climate change
  • protecting agricultural lands
  • preserving environmental areas
  • conserving cultural heritage
  • managing aggregate resources
  • protecting and nurturing rural communities
  • managing growth for long-term benefits
  • creating healthy and complete neighbourhoods
  • designing great urban places
  • creating high quality mobility options
  • pursuing housing affordability
  • supporting economic development, and
  • managing civic infrastructure.

The presentation is the latest in a comprehensive process of research, extensive public engagement and Council deliberations.

In the coming weeks the public will have more opportunities to get involved as the draft Official Plan is further refined.
