Caledon announces Fire Chief’s retirement

September 8, 2023 (CALEDON, ON) – The Town of Caledon announced today that Dave Forfar, Chief of Fire and Emergency Services has decided to retire by the end of 2023.

Chief Dave Forfar stepped in as the interim Chief of Fire and Emergency Services in January 2022. He had previously held the role, for the Town of Caledon, from 2013 to 2016 when he retired after 36 years of service. Prior to working with the Town of Caledon, he was Deputy Fire Chief for Barrie Fire and Emergency Services where he was responsible for Training, Fire Prevention and Communication divisions, and with Markham Fire and Emergency Services as an Acting Platoon Chief and District Chief.

“I came back to Caledon as Fire Chief to help the town through a transition period,” said Chief Dave Forfar. “I feel the department is running well and is in a good place for a new Chief to takeover and support the continued growth of Caledon Fire and Emergency Services.”

The Town has started actively recruiting a new Chief of Fire and Emergency Services to allow transition time before Chief Forfar retires.

“We wish to express our gratitude to Chief Forfar for his dedicated years of service, not only to the Town of Caledon and its residents, but to the firefighters he has led and mentored through his distinguished carrier. After years of indescribable hard work Chief Forfar’s legacy will remain with the community for years to come” said Nathan Hyde, Town of Caledon CAO.
