Dolce Family Ristorante Chef Suthan

Described by some as a “hidden gem”, Dolce Family Ristorante serves up a wide variety of Italian dishes from their small unassuming location in Caledon Village. We recently asked Chef Suthan about the business and how they are dealing with the pandemic.

Tell us about your business.

Dolce Family Ristorante has been open since August 2017. It is a family business.

I have been a chef for over 25 years. I enjoy cooking and I am good at it, so I wanted to share that with people and decided to open my own restaurant.

We serve a variety of Italian food, with over 40+ items on our menu. We do our best to keep our high quality food at affordable prices.

What should everyone try from your menu at least once?

I would highly recommend that everyone try the Veal Parmigiana, Penne al Vodka or the Spaghetti al Dolce at least once.

They are our most popular items on the menu.

How have you adjusted your business model due to the pandemic?

We’re still offering the wide variety of dishes we always have, which we will change up, as we always do, in the spring.  We’ve started doing weekend specials (soon to be on weekdays as well) just to keep things fresh and interesting.

Our business hours are a little shorter than they were before due to government restrictions, now 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (8:30 on Friday and Saturday).

And, we have started to do delivery. It is limited to Friday and Saturday after 7 pm but we think it will allow those people that can’t get out to pick up their orders more of an opportunity to have a delicious Italian meal at home.

We will make exceptions for big orders of course. People can just give us a call to make their request.

Has anything positive come out of the changes you’ve had to make?

Takeout service has definitely gone up during the pandemic. Some days, it is busier than it would have been if we had dine-in and on other days, it is much slower.

The community has been supporting us a lot during these hard times and we are grateful for them.

What are you most looking forward to when we get past the pandemic restrictions?

We’re excited to be planning a breakfast menu. Sometime soon people will be able to enjoy our food in the morning as well.

We are most looking forward to doing dine-in service and having more interaction with our customers again.
