Notice of Street Name Change

Location Map_Street Naming

Please be advised that the Town of Caledon is proposing to rename a section of 'Cross Country Boulevard' to 'Roy Clarkson Way' in recognition of former Assistant District Fire Chief Roy Clarkson.

Proposal

The section of street proposed for renaming is approximately 100 m in length, would extend westerly from Highway 50 to the southward bend in the street and would include the rear entrance driveway to the new fire station under construction at 14002 Highway 50 (map attached). No changes are proposed to any street addresses on Cross Country Boulevard or Gray Park Drive as a result of this street renaming.

Background

Roy A. Clarkson was a longtime resident of Bolton and one of Caledon Fire most dedicated volunteers. He was the recipient of the Don Kellett trophy for the highest volunteer service ten years in a row.

Intention

As the primary access for Caledon Fire & Emergency Service vehicles returning to Bolton’s new fire station, renaming the street section Roy Clarkson Way is intended to act in lasting recognition of Clarkson’s longstanding dedication to serving our community.

Street Renaming Procedure

Staff intend to bring forward a street renaming by-law to Town Council on May 28, 2019. Local newspaper advertisements will also be undertaken notifying the public of this intention, in accordance with requirements of the Town of Caledon’s Corporate Procedure on Street Naming.
