Caledon wins court order against illegal trucking operator

January 23, 2023 – The Town of Caledon has successfully prosecuted two illegal trucking companies resulting in a court order to cease operations at 6086 and 6186 Mayfield Road.

On January 18, 2023, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice found that 6086 Mayfield Inc. and 2652876 Ontario Inc. were using properties on Mayfield Road contrary to the Town’s zoning and fill bylaws. The order prohibits 6086 Mayfield Inc. and 2652876 Ontario Inc. from continuing to illegally use their property as a trucking depot and orders they remove all illegal trucking equipment by an agreed upon date.

“The actions taken by our bylaw enforcement team demonstrates the Town’s continued commitment to eliminate illegal trucking operations that negatively impact our Town,” said Mark Sraga, Director of Building and Municipal Law Enforcement. “The Town will continue to take legal action against those who defy municipal bylaws to ensure Caledon remains an attractive location for businesses to succeed and benefit those who live here.”

This investigation began in June 2020 when complaints of noise, debris and property alterations in the Tullamore area, directly across from an established neighbourhood, were brought to the Town’s attention.

“Our fight against illegal trucking is gaining momentum,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “Today’s announcement reinforces our commitment to mitigating the negative impacts of illegal trucking in our town”.

To help Town staff fight illegal trucking operations, residents are encouraged to report suspected illegal trucking facilities when they see them.
