Caledon Activates Emergency Operations Centre in light of COVID-19

COVID-19 Update

To ensure the Town of Caledon is best able to support our residents and businesses, the Town of Caledon today activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) as part of an ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“My top priority, and that of our Council, is to ensure we are working hand-in-hand with the Region of Peel to monitor the situation and make decisions that are in the best interest of public safety for Caledon residents,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “Activating the EOC allows the Town to dedicate the Town’s resources to effectively address this growing concern.”

With Caledon’s EOC in place, first responders as well as key personnel from every division of the Town are brought together to coordinate the Town’s response. The EOC is currently reviewing all Town operations, programs and facilities and evaluating possible further action to help ensure that all necessary actions are taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while retaining the Town’s ability to deliver core services to its residents.

“The Region of Peel, through Peel Public Health, is the lead agency in relation to the COVID-19 response in Peel generally and the Town of Caledon specifically,” said Carey Herd, Chief Administrative Officer.  “We are in frequent communication with the Region of Peel to receive updates on the virus, its presence in the Region, and actions being taken to help prevent the spread of the virus.”

At present all Town programs and services are currently being delivered as planned and all Town facilities remain open as normally scheduled.  This includes recreation programs such as our March Break camps. The Town has taken additional precautions such as additional cleaning and sanitizing in Town facilities to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Caledon EOC, in consultation with the Region of Peel, is continually assessing the situation to determine any necessary changes to operations, programs or service levels. As service levels could change at a moment’s notice, the Town encourages residents to follow the Town through its regular communications channels (Facebook and Twitter @yourcaledon and website: caledon.ca). For emergency alerts delivered to a mobile device the Town also has an app available for download at caledon.ca/app (requires permission for notifications).
