Business Opening: King Masonry Yard Ltd.

On June 12, 2018 King Masonry Yard celebrated the Grand Opening of their new location at 31 Sloan Drive, Caledon. We asked owner, Isaac Raposo about his business journey and why he chose to expand in Caledon.

Tell us a little about your business, what do you offer? Is there anything that makes King Masonry Yard unique from the competitors?

King Masonry Yard Ltd. opened its doors in March 2010, with our first location and second in Bolton until we built our permanent building in Caledon in 2017. We offer high quality and unique bricks including modern shades of greys, charcoals and blacks as well as traditional turn of the century bricks in reds, browns and burgundy. We also specialize in offering unique colors and can create blends that will make your home stand out.

We offer stone from around the world including custom cut to traditional building stone. If you are looking to create a timeless, exceptional and great quality home or building, King Masonry Yard has it. We are set apart from our competitors as we offer turnkey service, assisting our clients in building quality homes and buildings from inception and design, throughout the building process to the final stages.

How did you get into this business?

I began in this industry 30 years ago as a part-time student at a summer job. Helping people build their dream home just felt good!

Why did you choose to locate your business in Caledon?

Caledon felt right. It’s a new and upcoming area for custom homes with beautiful areas and landscapes. We felt it was a great new market for new businesses.

How many people do you employ? Have you (recently) or will you be growing your staff/services?

We started with 4 employees and have quietly grown to 28, including hiring people from Caledon.

Our team has the expertise and experience to make our customer’s dream come true. Our team is what makes King Masonry Yard a truly great company; add our great products and service and we are untouchable.

What is it about owning your own business that gives you the most satisfaction?

The satisfaction that I get from owning my own business is that I get to make customers happy and am able to explore new and distinct products in a fast and changing market. Keeping up is fun and challenging.

Any fun or interesting thing you do at your workplace to keep everyone working as a team?

We celebrate each employee’s birthday by ordering everyone lunch for that day! We also have a resident puppy, Pebbles, that goes home with one of our employees each night and returns to work every day. She is a hit with our customers and improves the overall morale of the workplace.
