Programs

The Town of Caledon offers both inclusive and adapted opportunities in all program areas for participants with a special need.

Inclusive opportunities: 
  • For individuals who may require some additional assistance in order to participant in standard recreational programs
  • A program where participants with special needs participate in any program alongside others
  • Upon request, a inclusion staff will support the participant as they engage in program activities to their fullest extent; subject to staff availability
Adapted opportunities:
  • For individuals who have special needs and want to participate in a recreation program with others who have similar interests and abilities
  • The program has been modified to meet the needs of a specific group of participants. This could be through equipment, content and rules, structure, support or environment
  • Inclusion staff will support participants as they engage in program activities to their fullest extent

Adapted Programs
Fun Club

Designed for participants with special needs, this supported program will provide opportunities to socialize in an active gymnasium environment followed by time in the swimming pool. 

 

Activity Time

This program is for participants with special needs. Participants will be exposed to a variety of activities; arts and crafts, physical activity, and group games in a supportive environment. 

 

Adapted Swimming Lessons

This program is for participants aged 13-21 years with special needs. With each individual's needs in mind, the goal of this program is to provide basic water instruction and to teach water safety skills in a one-to- one setting. 

 

All participants must complete a profile prior to entry into any Town of Caledon Registered Program.

Single Visit Activities
Support Persons at any Single Visit Activity

The Town of Caledon offers a variety of single visit programs town-wide. Participants are welcome to register for these programs and a support person can accompany free of charge. Please identify the support person to staff upon check in to be admitted at no charge.

 

Adapted Swim

A shallow water, sensory-aware swim for individuals and their family who benefit from a quiet swimming environment. All participants must be accompanied by their own parent or caregiver. All ages welcome, admission standards apply.

Inclusion Support 

Support Options
Internal Support

An inclusion staff will support participants as they engage in program activities to their fullest extent. Inclusion support is recommended for participants with special needs that require: 

  • verbal prompting 
  • hand over hand guidance or support 
  • monitoring and assisting with tasks (ex. eating)
  • additional support at school, home or in the community 
External Support Worker 

If a participant wishes to attend a program with external support, external support workers are welcomed.

  • The external support worker must meet expectations outlined on the External Support Worker form
  • External support workers can assist participants with personal and medical care as arranged by the parent/guardian

  • If your child is attending with an external support worker, please enroll into the inclusion support barcode

 

How To: Inclusion Support Request - General Programs | Skating| Fitness  
  1. Click Browse and Register
  2. Register your child into the program you would like them to attend (ex. swim or soccer lessons)
  3. Then go to: Inclusive Programs > Inclusion Support Request > Show Courses
    • Narrow your search by using the Filter to search by specific location and
  4. Select in the location and program specific Inclusion Support request barcode
  5. Enroll the participant to the Waitlist
  6. A staff member will contact participants to discuss individual needs, complete a participant profile and staffing availability

Note: Space is limited, and support will be scheduled based on staff availability.

  4. Select in the location and program specific Inclusion Support request barcode

How To: Inclusion Counsellor Request - Camps
 PA Day | Winter Break - Festive Fun Days | March Break | Summer Camp
  1. Click Browse and Register
  2. Select: Camps > Inclusion Counselor Request > Show Courses
  3. View and browse the program specific Location and Day or Week you wish to enroll
    1. Narrow your search by using the Filter to search by specific location and dates
  4. Select the program specific Inclusion Counsellor Request Barcode that corresponds
  5. Enroll the participant to the Waitlist
  6. A staff member will contact participants to discuss individual needs, complete a participant profile and finalize registration.

Note: Register only in the inclusion request barcode specific to the camp date/week. Once staffing availability is confirmed, families will be contacted to finalize camp registration.   

Space is limited, and support will be scheduled based on the registration queue OR time and date of registration and is subject to staff availability.

 

Participant Profiles

Participants with special needs requiring support, will be asked to provide additional information.

 

All participants requiring support must complete a profile prior to attending any Town of Caledon registered program.

  • To ensure a successful program experience, families who do not complete and submit the Participant Profile at least 3 days prior to the first day of programs, will not be permitted to attend.
  • A staff member will contact families upon registering for an Inclusion Support barcode to discuss individual needs and provide the Participants Profile Form for completion.
  • The participant profile is confidential and will only be provided to the staff working directly with a participant in a program.

 

All new first-time participants must be directed to the Coordinator - Specialty Programs at 905.584.2272 ext. 4204 to complete a participant profile.
