Permanent Signs

A building permit is required for all permanent ground and wall signs. (For information about temporary signs, please visit our temporary signs page.)

Wall Signs

A complete submission includes:

  • A completed Building Permit Application (pdf)
  • Two complete sets of structural drawings that include:
    • The elevation of the front face of the building indicating the height and
      width of the building
    • The sign location on the building including dimensions of both the building face and sign
    • The construction of the sign box and method of attachment
    • Two site plans, and
    • The application fee: either $30.00/m² or a minimum of $150.00.

Ground Signs

A complete submission includes:

  • A completed Building Permit Application (pdf)
  • Two complete sets of structural drawings that include:
    • The construction of the sign, the sign structure and its supporting framework including foundation and dimensions,
    • The materials to be used in the construction and installation of the sign,
    • The message displayed or to be displayed on the sign,
    • An explanation of how the sign is illuminated (if it is illuminated),
    • Two site plans that include:
      • The dimensions of the lands upon which the sign is to be located,
      • The location of any existing building or structure on the lands upon which the sign is to be located,
      • The location of the sign, and
    • The application fee: either $30.00/m² or a minimum of $150.00.
