That's a wrap on Seniors Month 2025!

The Town of Caledon kicked off the summer season by celebrating a vibrant and meaningful Seniors Month this June!

A heartfelt thank you to all the community partners, organizations, and residents who helped make this month such a success. Together, we hosted over 20 events, welcomed more than 500 residents who signed up for a Seniors Month Recreation Pass, saw over 700 participants attend Seniors Month programming, and partnered with 9 community organizations that offered free inclusive and engaging events across Caledon.

The Town of Caledon was pleased to partner with Caring Touch Home Health Care to host a “Paint and Sip” afternoon for local residents. This guided painting session offered participants the chance to explore their creativity while following step-by-step instructions to create a cheerful, tropical-inspired masterpiece. Attendees enjoyed refreshing mocktails and light snacks in a relaxed, social setting that encouraged connection and creativity.

June 9 - Seniors shopping event with Caledon Community Services at Evolve

Evolve Caledon - Caledon Community Services

The Town of Caledon partnered with Evolve Caledon, operated by Caledon Community Services, to host a special “Seniors Shopping Day” for residents aged 55 and over. This event featured an exclusive 50% discount on all in-store items during a designated shopping window, giving older adults the opportunity to browse for unique finds, clothing, accessories, and home décor at unbeatable prices.

Guests were welcomed with light refreshments and a warm, community-focused atmosphere that encouraged social interaction while supporting a great cause. Shopping at Evolve doesn’t just benefit the customer - it gives back to the community, with all proceeds supporting essential programs and services delivered by Caledon Community Services.

The Town of Caledon proudly partnered with Visions of Hope Resource Centre (VOHRC) to offer a vibrant and culturally rich afternoon of an African Drumming Session. This unique experience invited residents to immerse themselves in the rhythms and traditions of African drumming through live demonstrations and hands-on participation.

Participants were guided by skilled drummers who shared the cultural significance of the instruments and rhythms, encouraging everyone to join in and explore the joy of making music together. The interactive session was followed by a delicious, culturally inspired lunch, providing a perfect opportunity for attendees to relax, connect, and reflect on the experience.

In partnership with Palgrave United Community Kitchen (PUCK) and ecoCaledon, the Town proudly supported an initiative to celebrate and promote local food, sustainability, and community connection. This engaging event encouraged residents to explore the benefits of eating locally - highlighting fresh, in-season ingredients sourced from Caledon and surrounding areas.

Participants enjoyed information, resources, and practical tips on how to incorporate more local and sustainable choices into their everyday meals. With support from PUCK's culinary expertise and ecoCaledon’s environmental leadership, the event blended food, education, and community spirit into one delicious experience.

The Town of Caledon partnered with Caledon Meals on Wheels (CMOW) to host a lively and heartwarming Country Line Dance Party and Luncheon - a true celebration of community, connection, and fun. Sponsored by Home Instead and supported by enthusiastic Volunteers from Mars Inc. Bolton, CMOW and the Town, the event brought together residents for an afternoon filled with music, movement, and meaningful social engagement.

Attendees were treated to a delicious BBQ-style lunch, followed by an upbeat and accessible line dancing session led by local instructor Hope Young. Whether they were seasoned dancers or first-timers, participants were guided through easy-to-follow steps that got everyone smiling and moving together.

June 17 - World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) Flag Raising

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

On June 17th, the Town of Caledon held a flag-raising ceremony in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) - a global initiative aimed at raising awareness of the abuse, neglect, and mistreatment that older adults may face.

The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the importance of respecting, protecting, and empowering older adults in our community. Local leaders, community partners, and residents gathered in solidarity to show their support, reaffirm the Town’s commitment to age-friendly principles, and advocate for safe, inclusive environments where all seniors can live with dignity.

By raising the flag, the Town proudly stood alongside communities around the world in recognizing this important day and encouraging continued education, dialogue, and action to prevent elder abuse.

June 17 - 2025 Senior of the Year Award Recipient - Ed Taccone

2025 Senior of the Year Award Recipient

At a ceremony on Tuesday June 17, 2025, the Honourable Sylvia Jones, MPP for Dufferin-Caledon and Deputy Premier of Ontario and Minister of Health and Members of Council proudly named Ed Taccone as Caledon’s 2025 Senior of the Year, recognizing his outstanding volunteerism and lasting impact on our community.

“Congratulations to Mr. Taccone on this well-deserved recognition,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “Ed’s commitment to community-building is unmatched, and Caledon is stronger because of his leadership and dedication.”

The Senior of the Year award, presented in partnership with the Government of Ontario, celebrates a local senior over the age of 65 who continues to enrich the social, cultural or civic fabric of their community.

“Mr. Taccone exemplifies the passion, energy and generosity that our seniors bring to Caledon,” said Judith D'Souza Soares, Commissioner of Community Services. “His contributions remind us of the vital role older adults play in building connection, belonging and vibrancy across our town.”

About the 2025 Senior of the Year

For years, Ed Taccone has been the driving force behind some of Caledon’s most cherished events and traditions. As President of the Caledon Fair Board for 11 years, Ed provides steadfast leadership and is involved in every aspect of the fair – from maintaining the grounds to securing local business partnerships.

His volunteerism extends far beyond the fair, Ed plays a key role in organizing the annual Strawberry Festival and Caledon's Canada Day celebrations, ensuring residents of all ages can come together in celebration and community spirit.

Ed’s tireless contributions reflect the powerful role seniors play in shaping Caledon’s vibrant and inclusive community.

Celebrate the Cultural Diversity of South Asian Countries  Celebrate the Cultural Diversity of South Asian Countries

The Malton Women Council hosted a vibrant and educational event titled “Celebrate the Cultural Diversity of South Asian Countries.” This celebration showcased the rich history, traditions, and cultural heritage of South Asian communities, highlighting the beauty and uniqueness of countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and others.

The event featured colorful traditional attire, cultural displays, music, dance performances, and storytelling—offering attendees an immersive experience into the diverse customs and histories that shape South Asian identity. It was a joyful and inclusive celebration that fostered cross-cultural understanding, community pride, and appreciation for the many cultures that contribute to the social fabric of our region.

June 24 - Peel Council on Aging's 3rd Annual Summit on Aging

The Town of Caledon proudly partnered with the Peel Council on Aging to host the 3rd Annual Summit on Aging - a community event dedicated to supporting older adults in living well and aging in place. Held at the Caledon East Community Complex, the 2025 Summit welcomed over 250 residents from across the Region of Peel, along with 25 organizations and vendors committed to enhancing the well-being of older adults.

The event featured distinguished guests including the Honourable Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility; Town of Caledon Councillors; and Keynote Speaker Juliet Jackson from the Region of Peel. A variety of engaging presentations and information sessions were delivered by guest speakers, all centered around this year’s theme: Safety.

Sessions were designed to empower older adults with practical knowledge on topics such as personal safety, fraud prevention, and emergency preparedness—supporting residents in feeling secure and confident in their daily lives.

The Annual Afternoon Strawberry Social, hosted by the Caledon Seniors Centre and sponsored by the Town, was a sweet and summery celebration bringing together older adults for an afternoon of connection, community, and delicious treats. Guests enjoyed a classic seasonal favourite - fresh strawberries served with shortcake and whipped cream - while catching up with friends, enjoying live entertainment, and participating in lighthearted social activities.

Seniors Month at the Library

Caledon Public Library

Throughout the month of June, Caledon Public Library proudly celebrated Seniors Month by offering a wide variety of engaging programs tailored to the interests and needs of older adults. With a focus on lifelong learning, social connection, and wellness, the library hosted a dynamic mix of in-person and virtual activities designed to inspire, inform, and connect.

Highlights included technology help sessions, author talks, creative workshops, book clubs, and wellness-focused presentations - all created with the goal of empowering older adults to explore new interests and stay socially and mentally active. The library also served as a welcoming hub for community gathering, with friendly staff ready to support residents in accessing resources, information, and programming.
