Tanker Accreditation

Superior Tanker Shuttle Service Accreditation

Caledon Fire and Emergency Services is accredited as "Superior Tanker Shuttle Service" by the Fire Underwriters Survey for single-family detached residential properties in the rural areas of Caledon within 8 kilometres by road of a fire station.

Benefits to residents in rural areas:
  1. Some insurance companies recognize the Superior Tanker Shuttle Accreditation. Rural residents within 8 km of a fire station may benefit from a significant reduction in annual fire insurance premiums and are encouraged to contact their insurance agent to ask if their insurance company offers a rate reduction.  Please print this document and take to your insurer.
  2. Successfully completing the test demonstrates that Caledon Fire and Emergency Services is able to effectively transport sufficient water to fire incident scenes throughout our community.
  3. The achievement of the Superior Tanker Shuttle Accreditation means that Caledon Fire and Emergency Services has demonstrated its ability to protect our rural residents.

Requirements to become accredited:

The Superior Tanker Shuttle Service test forms part of the Fire Underwriters Survey rating for the municipality, which is used to determine residential fire insurance rates.  Achievement of the Superior Tanker Shuttle Accreditation generally provides for hydrant protected insurance ratings for areas of the municipality not equipped with fire hydrants.

The basic requirements for residential accreditation, known as Dwelling Protection Grade (DPG) are:

  1. Within five minutes of the first pumper arriving at a fire scene, firefighters must be able to deliver a minimum of one thousand (1,000) litres/minute (200 gal/min) of water; and
  2. Maintain that water flow uninterrupted for two hours.

The basic requirements for commercial lines accreditation, known as Public Fire Protection Classification (PFPC) are:

  1. Within ten minutes of the first pumper arriving at a fire scene, firefighters must be able to deliver a minimum of two thousand (2,000) litres/minute (400 gal/min) of water; and
  2.  Maintain that water flow uninterrupted for two hours.

As a result of these accreditations:

  • Residents who own detached dwellings within 8 kilometres (by road) to a fire station and are 5 kilometres from an approved water supply may be eligible to receive a cost reduction in their fire insurance rates from insurers in Canada.
  • Commercial business owners who own property within 5 kilometres (by road) to a fire station and are 2.5 kilometres from an approved water supply may be eligible to receive a cost reduction in their fire insurance rates from insurers in Canada.
