Inclusive Services - Camp Support Options

The Town of Caledon offers two models of support for participants requiring assistance to integrate into camps. Your child may require inclusion support if they:

  • Have a physical, visual, hearing, developmental or intellectual disability
  • Have attention or behaviour difficulties
  • Receive support or special education services at school or, from a community agency
  • Require support for personal and medical care (ex. toileting, changing, administration of medications)

Internal Support

An inclusion counsellor will support participants as they engage and integrate in program activities. Inclusion support is recommended for participants with special needs/disability that require:

  • Verbal prompting
  • Hand over hand guidance or support
  • Monitoring and assisting with tasks (ex. eating)
  • Additional support at school, home or in the community

External Support Worker

If a participant wishes to attend a program with external support, external support workers are welcomed.

  • The external support worker must meet expectations outlined on the External Support Worker form
  • External support workers can assist participants with personal and medical care as arranged by the parent/guardian
  • For more information on the external support worker process, please contact the Coordinator - Specialty Programs at 905.584.2272 ext. 4204

Note: If your child is attending with an external support worker, please enroll into the inclusion support barcode

Participant Profiles

Participants with a special need/disability requiring support, will be asked to provide additional information. All participants requiring support must complete a Participant Profile prior to attending any Town of Caledon program. Participant Profiles are designed to:

  • Ensure a successful program experience for the participant and the inclusion staff member.
  • Details listed in the participant profile are kept confidential and will only be provided to the inclusion support staff working directly with a participant.
  • To ensure positive and safe experiences for all, Participant Profile must be submitted at least 3 days prior to the program start date and 1 week prior to the camp start date. If a participant’s profile is not submitted on time or completed to its fullest, entry into the program will be delayed or denied, at the discretion of town staff.

Participant Profiles are updated every summer, all families will be asked to complete a new participate profile each year.
