A Proclamation is an official announcement issued by the Mayor to recognize the value and importance of a person, an event, a campaign, or an organization for a certain day, week or month. The purpose of a proclamation is to recognize and celebrate achievements, and to raise public awareness of important issues in the Caledon community.

Proclamation Requests are submitted to the Mayor's Office and shall meet all of the following criteria:

  • A recognized charity with offices located in the Town of Caledon or by a community group based within the Town;
  • Will be issued only in respect of activities that support residents of the Town of Caledon or related events taking place in the Town; and
  • Must demonstrate respect and tolerance for all Caledon residents, foster a sense of community and shall not be used as a vehicle to attempt to influence government policy.

Please note that proclamations will not be issued for:

  • Matters of political controversy, ideological or religious beliefs or individual conviction;
  • Events or organizations with no direct relationship to the Town;
  • National, Independence or Republic Days; or
  • Campaigns intended for profit-making purposes.

How to make a Request

  1. Complete the Proclamation Request Form.
  2. Draft your proclamation text, using the text on the Proclamation Request Form as a guide.
  3. The completed Proclamation Request Form can be:
  • delivered in person to the Mayor's Office (Atrium of Town Hall, 6311 Old Church Road),
  • mailed to Town Hall, Attn: Mayor's Office, 6311 Old Church Road, Caledon ON L7C 1J6, or
  • emailed (

Proclamations are noted by the Mayor at each Council meeting as an Announcement. The Mayor will read out the proclamation title, organization's name, and date the proclamation is in effect. Please note that the text of the proclamation will not be read aloud, it will be posted on the Town's website to raise awareness for the organization.
