New burn permit application offers more choice, convenience

Property owners in Caledon can now buy a burn permit from a newly updated online application that offers more choice and the convenience of 7/24 availability.

“Our residents want to access Town services when it makes sense for THEM,” said Mayor Allan Thompson.  “With our online burn permit application they don’t have to make a trip during the day or fill out paperwork. They can go online anytime and get a permit, fast.”

Launched in 2014, Caledon’s online burn permit application has been updated to include two new categories of permit:

  • Open Air permits ($42) are for larger lots (at least a half-acre in size) to burn yard waste (but not grass clippings or leaves)
  • Recreational permits ($25) are for residential properties that meet minimum size/distance requirements.

“The online application is not only convenient, it is also a great educational tool to promote safe burning practices in Caledon,” said Darryl Bailey, Chief of Caledon Fire and Emergency Services. “By following the permit terms and conditions, residents can safely dispose of yard waste or simply enjoy a recreational fire. And safe burning means fewer illegal burns, fines and unnecessary calls.”

Please note: Agricultural permits are a third category of permit.  Intended for agricultural properties, these permits are NOT available online. They require an inspection, which must be arranged in advance by calling Caledon Fire and Emergency Services at 905.584.2272 x. 4303.
