Economic Development: 2018 mid-year update

You Fit Here!

The Economic Development and Tourism division has had a very busy 2018 so far. From events to consultation sessions and getting the Caledon Business Innovation Zone (CBIZ) ready to go we continue to develop and provide services to assist you in starting or growing your business. Here are just a few of the things we have been working on:

Caledon Business Forum: The Caledon Business Forum took place on March 28, 2018 at the Albion Bolton Community Centre. Local employers, Strategic Initiatives staff, and various service providers came together to discuss successes, challenges and available services for workforce recruitment and retention. The Forum will become a regularly held event to ensure we are staying connected with our employers.

Mayor’s Business Breakfast: At the Mayor’s Business Breakfast on April 27, the local business community got an opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and listen to Dr. Lance Secretan, best-selling author and global leadership coach who shared insights from his new book The Bellwether Effect. The event was well attended by the local business community, councilors and Town staff.

Mayor’s Youth Summit: The Summit provided an opportunity for high school students to voice their concerns, opinions, and ideas about Caledon. The theme of the day was youth employment. The Summit took place on May 2, 2018 at Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness. The event included facilitated discussions and a Q & A session, as well as four of the Secondary Schools presenting their findings of a survey project conducted in partnership with the Economic Development team.

And we have a lot more lined up:

The launch of a new website: A new website is on the way with easy navigation and responsive design elements. Visitors will have access to important topics such as industry trends, environment, land uses, community facilities and other helpful information based on a visitor’s unique needs.

Resource guide: A new resource guide will include all the information an employer requires when looking to hire new talent. From apprenticeship program contacts to government grants to library resources, this resource will be available in print and online.

Launch of Caledon Business Innovation Zone (CBIZ): Providing support to new and growing businesses, CBIZ, an innovative hub will allow access to services and resources which includes information about marketing, technology, financing and mentoring. It also offers a free business consulting service.

And that’s not all!

Cheers Caledon: It’s almost time for the annual ‘Cheers Caledon! A Craft Beer and Cider Festival’. Scheduled for June 15 2018, the festival will feature the best home-grown producers such as Badlands Brewing, Caledon Hills Brewing, GoodLot Farmstead Brewing, Pommies Cider, Spirit Tree Estate Cidery and more. Tickets are available through cheerscaledon.

And….the very next day on June 16 it's Caledon Day! An exciting free event that offers a perfect opportunity for communities in Caledon to connect, engage and have fun! Enjoy vendors, food & drink, a concert, amazing fireworks and more…
