February 16, 2021 Town Council Meeting Highlights

Corporate Highlights

  • On February 1, Council received an update on the Ward Boundary Review, visit the Town’s website to learn more
  • Council endorsed the Community Safety and Well-being Plan to tackle the issues of family violence, mental health, addiction and systemic discrimination

Budget Highlights

  • Council approved the 2021 Budget with an overall increase of 1.13%, including both the Region of Peel and School Board tax impacts for homeowners
    • The impact of COVID-19 heavily influenced the focus of the 2021 budget. Key investments include roads, facilities, parks, fire and emergency services and traffic enforcement. More information about the 2021 Budget is available on the Town’s website 

Financial Highlights

  • The Town continues to support internet connectivity efforts by providing financial assistance to successful proponents of the Universal Broadband Fund grant program
  • The Town approved a Loan Guarantee Request to secure funding for three (3) projects being funded under the SWIFT initiative. This represents another step closer to connecting Caledon 

Community Highlights

  • Council supported Black History Month by listening to the work being done within the community by the North Peel Community Church to foster community involvement and unity
  • Plans are coming soon to revitalize Downtown Bolton – stay tuned for more highlights
  • ‘LOVE LOCAL TUESDAYS’ has been extended for the duration of 2021 - residents are encouraged to continue to support local businesses!
  • Caledon will be asking the Province and Federal Government to take a closer look at the potential locals impacts of the proposed GTA West Transportation Corridor, including support for the TRCA’s involvement in the review and sign-off of the project
  • Council is proceeding with the introduction of ubiquitous WiFi allowing the residents of the Mayfield West Phase 2 community the luxury of staying connected while enjoying the amenities within the new development
  • The Town is supporting the Region with the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccination clinics that are scheduled to begin in March at various facilities across the Town, visit the Town’s website to learn more
