Caledon Council’s charity golf tournament helps local families in need

sketch

The lion’s share of proceeds from Caledon Council’s annual charitable golf tournament will this year go towards the renovation of a heritage property for use as supportive housing by local families with adult children who have intellectual or development disabilities.

The project will be led by Raising the Roof, a national charitable organization focusing on youth homelessness, and will focus on renovating 1 Cedar Mains Drive, a heritage property near Highway 50 and Old Church Road known locally as “the Church House.”

Once renovated the property – which is on land owned by Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) -- will be turned over to Caledon Area Families for Inclusion (CAFFI), a local parent organization that helps support families and their family members with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

The 2018 tournament will take place Wednesday, September 5 at its long-time venue, Osprey Valley Golf Course.

QUOTES

It’s hard to imagine a more deserving and worthwhile cause. We are proud to support local families who have been working so hard over the years to support one another enrich the lives of their adult children.

Councillor Johanna Downey, Chair
Caledon Councillors Community Golf Tournament

These adults currently do not have choices, enabling them to stay in their home community where they are known, have family, and have established connections. This project directly addresses the challenge of affordable housing. We are so grateful.

Patricia Franks, Chair
Caledon Area Families For Inclusion

This is the first project we are undertaking as part of our "Reside" program, a new program that repurposes existing vacant buildings for supportive affordable housing. And I can’t think of a better recipient than CAFFI.

Michael Braithwaite, CEO
Raising the Roof

We’re so excited to be part of this project. This is a fantastic opportunity to repurpose one of our assets for the betterment of the community.

John MacKenzie, CEO
Toronto and Region Conservation Authority

About Caledon Area Families For Inclusion

CAFFI was formed by a group of local parents of children/young adults with intellectual / developmental disabilities. The families came together out of concern for the lack of services,   programs, and housing for their family members in the Caledon community. Many of these individuals have positive experiences as children in school programs and local recreational activities, but become excluded from programs, camps and activities as they “age out”, without viable options. At age 21, once these young people leave school, they are faced with little to do, few places to go and even fewer places to live, as adults in Caledon. For more information about CAFFI, please contact cafficaledon@gmail.com.
