Town of Caledon's Single Tier Future
Peel Region will be dissolved in January 2025, establishing the Town of Caledon as a single tier municipality.
What does this mean for Caledon? As a single tier municipality, the Town will deliver some services that are currently provided regionally.
A provincial Transition Board has been appointed to oversee the separation and work with staff from the Region of Peel, City of Brampton, Mississauga and the Town of Caledon.
An internal transition team was formed in September 2023 led by the Mayor, Chief Administrative Officer, Commissioners and senior staff from key areas impacted by dissolution such as finance, human resources, servicing, roads and human services. The team will connect with the Peel Transition Board who will provide a workplan approved by the province.
Caledon is committed to offering the best of rural and urban life for current and future residents, businesses and visitors and will ensure this continues as the municipality moves to a single tier. In preparation for this, the Town streamlined the administration to six commissions which position Caledon to become a leading single-tier municipality that delivers efficient, innovative services to prepare for next steps in the process.
Region of Peel continues to deliver services during the transition.
