Liquor Licence Application Requirements

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) regulates the sale, service and consumption of beverage alcohol in the province.

The AGCO establishes the application processes for obtaining a Liquor Sales Licence or a Special Occasion Permit. As part of the AGCO's process for obtaining a Liquor Sales Licence, a Municipal Information form must be submitted to the Town Clerk's Office to be reviewed and signed.  In order to obtain a Special Occasion Permit for an outdoor event, notice must be provided to the Clerk's office of the local municipality at least 30 days prior to the event.

The Town of Caledon has established review processes for Liquor Sales Licence and Special Occasion Permit applications outlined below. Upon review, the Town will determine if there are any objections to the issuance of a Liquor Sales License or Special Occasion Permit. The Town's comments will be forwarded to the AGCO.

Municipal Significance

For the purpose of Special Occasion Permits for the sale and service of alcohol at public events not hosted by a registered charity or registered non-profit entity, the event must be designated as municipally significant by the appropriate municipal official or through a municipal resolution from Council. Please note that the request for municipal significance must include the reason why the event is considered significant and is subject to a fee (see below).

Applications must be submitted at least 30 days prior to an event, or 60 days prior if the anticipated attendance is expected to exceed 5,000 attendees. Only complete applications containing all the necessary information will be processed. Payment of the appropriate fee must be completed prior to the final letter being issued to the applicant and the AGCO.
