Bulletin No. 6: Labour Force Activity

The following bulletin is a highlight of Caledon’s Labour Force data as published by Statistics Canada on February 11, 2003.

Labour Force Activity

Between 1996 and 2001, Caledon’s labour force grew by 32% to 29,665. In 2001, the unemployment rate for Caledon’s population aged 15 years and older was recorded at 3.3%, a decline from 5.2% in 1996 and 5.9% in 1991.

Labour Force by Occupations

According to the 2001 Census, the most popular occupational group in Caledon was ‘Business, finance and administration’, which accounted for 6,215 people or 20.9% of the total labour force. Employment in the ‘Art, culture, recreation and sport’ occupational group represented the largest growth rate at 64.6% between 1996 and 2001.

Labour Force by Industry

The 2001 Census showed that Manufacturing (17.7%), Retail Trade (10.2%) and Construction (8.7%) were the three largest industry groups for Caledon’s labour force.
