Telecommunication Towers

The Town of Caledon, as a land use approval authority, represents the community in discussions with Industry Canada, the agency which regulates all telecommunication activities in Canada, and the proponents of proposed telecommunications applications. The Town has developed a Telecommunications Towers Protocol so that the process for establishing telecommunications facilities in Caledon is known in advance by the telecommunications companies, by Industry Canada, and by the Town's residents.

The protocol outlines the process telecommunication applicants will follow to establish and expand telecommunication facilities in the Town of Caledon. Telecommunication facilities are required to address the increasing demands for wireless communications (cellular telephone) service in the Town of Caledon. The protocol helps telecommunication companies satisfy the requirements of Industry Canada for consultation with local land use authorities prior to approval of new installations. The proponents of telecommunication facilities will follow this protocol when issued licenses from Industry Canada.
