2006
Transportation Tomorrow Survey
In the next four
months, more than 800 Caledon households will be randomly selected to
participate in the 2006 Transportation Tomorrow Survey. The purpose of this survey is to collect
information on the travel behaviours of residents, which will provide a
database for long-range transportation planning and improvements. In addition to trip information of each
household member over the age of eleven, such as trip origin, destination,
time, purpose and method of travel, participants will also be asked their
age, gender, employment status, size of the household and number of motor
vehicles they operate. About two
weeks prior to being contacted, an introductory letter explaining the survey
in detail will be sent to selected households. All information collected will be kept in strict confidence and
cannot be traced to an individual household.
Names, addresses and phone numbers are destroyed at the conclusion of
the survey’s data collection phase.
The Transportation
Tomorrow Survey gives us fundamental information about how the need for transportation
is changing and why. Just about every
transportation plan and project across the GTA will make use of the data from
the survey at some point in time. In
addition to the GTA, the survey will include Niagara Region, Hamilton,
Brantford, Waterloo Region, Wellington County, Guelph, Dufferin County,
Orangeville, Simcoe County, Barrie, Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough. The Town of Caledon has participated in
this survey through the Region of Peel every five years since 1986. More information about the Transportation
Tomorrow Survey can be found at www.transportationtomorrow.on.ca.
