Introduction
A Comprehensive
Broader Scale Environmental Study (CBSES or the Study) for Caledon Aggregate
Resource Area 9-A, and functionally related lands, is being prepared to address
the policies of the Town of Caledon Official Plan. The Study is being completed by James Dick Construction Limited
(JDCL) who have applied for a quarry license on a property known as the
Rockfort Quarry lands, which is located within Caledon Aggregate resource Area
9-A (refer to the Study Area maps below).
The overall purpose of the Study is
three-fold:
* To develop a science-based understanding of
the natural environment within the resource area and “functionally connected”
lands
* To develop an understanding of how
the environment might respond to changing land uses (i.e. new quarries)
* To develop policies and management
strategies to prevent unacceptable environmental impacts and to guide
site-specific applications
The Study is
structured into three main parts:

Part A: Ecosystem Characterization
How the natural environment is functioning within
the study area
•
Part B: Sensitivity Analysis
Modeling potential environmental response/ impacts
in relation to land use change
Developing initial environmental management objectives and targets
•
Part C: Implementation
Comprehensive Adaptive Management Plan
Long Term Monitoring Plan
Site Specific study requirements
Policy conformity assessment
Other findings and recommendations
A revised draft Part A Report was issued in
November 2006. The draft Part B Report
was issued in June 2007 and the draft Part C Report was issued on October 30,
2007. In addition to the information
provided through this webpage, copies of these reports are available for review
at the Town of Caledon and CD copies can also be obtained by contacting the
Town of Caledon or the Coalition of Concerned Citizens. Additional information will be posted on
this webpage as it becomes available.

PUBLIC CONSULTATION
In order to provide information to the public regarding the CBSES, and seek
public input, the Town of Caledon, Credit Valley Conservation, Region of Peel
and James Dick Construction Limited, have been jointly managing a public
consultation program, with input from the Coalition of Concerned Citizens. A Public Information Forum was held on
January 25, 2007 regarding the Draft Part A Report, and an “Objectives
Workshop” was held on February 27, 2007.
A third and final Forum will be held on January 22, 2008. The links below provide information
regarding these public consultation sessions.
