Introduction
Recent legislative and policy changes enacted by the Province of Ontario require the Town of Caledon to review and revise its Official Plan to bring it into conformity with new provincial requirements.  Specifically, these new Provincial requirements flow from the following documents:

1.      The Provincial Policy Statement 2005 (PPS 2005), which came into effect on March 1, 2005;

2.      Bill 135, The Greenbelt Act, which received Royal Assent on February 24, 2005 and the Greenbelt Plan, which took effect December 14, 2004;

3.      Bill 51, The Planning and Conservation Land Statute Law Amendment Act, which received Royal Assent on October 19, 2006; and,

4.      Bill 136, The Places To Grow Act, which received Royal Assent on June 13, 2005, and the “Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe” (commonly referred to as the “Places to Grow Plan”), which took effect June 16, 2006.

In addition, the Town is required to hold a Public Meeting, in the form of a special meeting of Council, at least once every 5 years, for the purpose of determining if aspects of its Official Plan need to be reviewed, and seeking public input on this matter.  The Town's last 5-Year Official Plan Review public meeting was held in 2002; therefore the Town is required to hold another such meeting in 2007.

On May 15, 2007, Caledon Council adopted Development Approval and Planning Policy Report 2007-22 which formally initiated the Town’s Provincial Policy Conformity exercise and 5-Year Official Plan Public Meeting process.  The first steps in this process include a Public Open House, schedule for June 18, 2007 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Caledon Community Complex, and a Public Meeting/Special Meeting of Council, scheduled for June 26, 2007 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Town Hall Council Chambers.  Additional opportunities for public input will be provided as the process continues.

In general, the overall target date for completion of the Town’s Provincial Policy Conformity exercise, in keeping with Provincial legislation, is June 2009.  The documents below provide initial information on this process and this web page will be continually updated as the process continues over the next 2 years.  For further information, please contact the Town of Caledon at the contact numbers noted above.
