CEAC Environmentalist of the Year
The
Caledon Environmental Advisory Committee (CEAC) is a Council-appointed group of
residents whose mandate is to advise and assist the Council and the citizens of
the Town of Caledon in the protection, enhancement, restoration, and
appreciation of our common natural heritage and in ensuring that our
communities are planned for environmental sustainability, health and respect
for all life. In 1997, CEAC established
an award program called the CEAC Environmentalist of the Year Award. The purpose of the award is to recognize
individuals or organizations that have made an outstanding contribution to
environmental stewardship in the Town of Caledon.
Early each
year, CEAC seeks public nominations for the award, which are then evaluated by
CEAC based on the criteria listed below.
Once the recipient is selected, CEAC presents them with the award at the
annual Caledon Volunteer and Citizen Achievement Award Ceremony and their name
is added to a plaque in the CEAC Stewardship Grove in Caledon East. New this year, as part of CEAC’s 10th
Anniversary celebration, CEAC has established a $500 Annual Environmentalism
Recognition Award that the recipient can direct to their favourite
Caledon-based environmental stewardship project.
In identifying
and reviewing nominees, CEAC is guided by the following criteria:
1. The
recipient must be one (or more) of the following: a resident of Caledon; own or
work in a business in Caledon; or, an organization active in Caledon.
2. The
recipient has contributed to the protection and improvement of the environment
in Caledon.
3. The
recipient has promoted innovative approaches to the sustainable use and
management of natural resources.
4. The
recipient has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to the health of the
environment.
5. The
recipient is an active volunteer and/or leader in community environmental
projects.
6. The
recipient is a local "environmental hero".
(NOTE: Members of CEAC and Council
are not eligible for this award)
CEAC is
excited to be one of a number of local organizations and countless volunteers
who are committed to making Caledon a healthier community, environmentally,
socially and economically. It is hoped
that CEAC's Environmentalist of the Year Award program will play a small part
in promoting the sound stewardship of Caledon's precious natural heritage.
